With the Solheim Cup due to take place in just 50 odd days time, this weeks Ladies Irish Open at Killeen Castle takes on special significance. The event supported by Fáilte Ireland, will see a host of Europe and America’s top players competing in what is effectively a dry run for the Solheim Cup. The €400,000 pot also makes the Ladies Irish
Open one of the most lucrative of the year.
Americans in the field include Stacey Lewis winner of the Kraft Nabisco Championship and third in the US Solheim Team standings. She will be joined by nailed on certainty to be in the team Angela Stanford and laugh a minute Christina Kim who is currently in the final automatic selection spot.

Top of the European team participants is Cup rankings leader and legend of the game, Laura Davies. Davies is joined by Melissa Reid, recent winner of the Deloitte Dutch Ladies Open. Diana Luna from Italy and Swedish rookie Caroline Hedwall, both having won twice already on this season’s Ladies European Tour, are also in the field. European winners on the U.S. Tour are also teeing it up in Killeen Castle including Sweden’s Maria Hjorth and Germany’s Sandra Gal, who won the KIA Classic and has Corkman Roy Clarke on the bag. Sweden’s Sophie Gustafson is also back to defend.
Irelands’ top player Rebecca Codd, will be trying to improve her 25th in the European Solheim standings. She will be joined by fellow Irish professional, Martina Gillen and Ireland’s top three amateurs, Danielle McVeigh, Leona and Lisa Maguire.
The Ladies Irish Open, supported by Fáilte Ireland, takes place from August 5th to 7th at Killeen Castle, Dunsany, Co. Meath. Located just off exit six on the M3, just fifteen minutes from the Blanchardstown M50 turn-off, the event is very accessible to the greater Dublin area and surrounding counties. The event is very family friendly with free tickets for children and senior citizens. Standard tickets are just €10, with season passes for €25.
