Golf fans were treated to a breakfast of Rice Krispies and blisters this morning as Rory McIlroy tweeted a pic of his damaged finger. Having not touched a club for six weeks over the Christmas, Ror’s hands ripped up during the first day of a week’s practice in Abu Dhabi ahead of next week’s event.
More worrying than the calluses however are those knobbly knees also seen in the pic. Those bad boys could give Ian Poulter’s sparrow legs a run for their money.
Rory is this morning receiving advice from Council road workers on treatment for his blistered digits.

Here’s whats in the bag of 2011 Hyundai Tournament of Champions winner Jonathan Byrd:
Robert Garrigus battled throughout the final round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions with a sore shoulder.
The official explanation for Garrigus’ sore right shoulder came from the man himself "I feel embarrassed to admit it, but I hurt it on 18 yesterday (Saturday) after I made that putt. I hadn't fist-pumped like that in a long time. I overdid it," he told GD’s Dave Shedloski.
However another much more plausible theory has emerged today. A spokesman for PGA Tour toilet supplier SwampAss.com today revealed that Garrigus, in an effort to avoid a repeat of The St Jude Classic “Sweaty Bum-Gate” had visited the Men’s WC in Kapalua a total of 135 times before the final round. It’s estimated the lavatory chain was subject to over 6,000 lbs of pressure over a one hour period. In the event Garrigus successfully avoided a recurrence of his crotch rot but suffered the shoulder injury as a consequence.

With Louis out of the picture this week it looks like the stage is set for Charl Schwartzel to defend his Joburg title. Darren Clarke had his lead down to one shot at one stage of the final round last year but Schwartzel’s putter eventually helped him to a six shot win. Fourth at the Africa Open last week, the same placing as at the South African Open and tied second at the Alfred Dunhill makes it three top fours in the last three events for Charl. A floorboard couldn’t be more nailed on.
Thomas Aiken clocked up another 14th place finish at the Africa Open to match his South African Open performance exactly at 12 under the week before. It’s the last event in the African swing for Aiken and he’ll be determined to cash in with a big cheque this week. Driving accuracy is the key for the home player as he looks to improve on his 45th place in the Tour Stats.
This week will be Robert’s 73rd appearance on the European Tour and after only ten starts last season, he’s determined to make his mark early in this campaign. The Englishman has started this season in fine form with three top tens in the South African swing with a best finish of tied sixth at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Rob won the Kenya Open on the Challenge Tour last year and tied second in the St Omer Open on one of his few main Tour forays. He knows how to get the job done and is on my shortlist.
Danny Willett makes his first start of the 2011 season this week and he has chosen a happy hunting ground to kick it off. The fiery Sheffield pro has finished tied fourth here in the last two stagings. The former world number one amateur has yet to make a winning breakthrough on the European Tour though he came mighty close at the Alfred Dunhill Links in St Andrews back in October. A supremely talented player with incredible hunger, could 2011 be a big one for Danny?
Former champion Richard Sterne might well be worth a look this week. The 2008 winner missed most of last season through injury but impressed on his comeback at the South African Open a couple of weeks back where he mixed a couple of 66’s with a 75 and a 70 to finish in 21st. A further improvement this week could see an even better result for the five time Tour winner.
Hunter Mahan, a former PGA Tour golfer, was living in a tent near a highway, his life ruined by a duffed chip at the Ryder Cup, until the Columbus Dispatch posted a video of him begging for money, thus showcasing the man with the golden golf swing.
The video, which highlighted Mahan’s majestically silky swing as he hit balls for passing motorists, went viral on the Internet. Mahan has since been flooded with tournament invites, including ones from the PGA and European Tour, who both offered him a two-year contract and volunteered to pay for his living expenses.
"I don't know which one to choose, which one is the right one," he said on "Today," regarding the job prospects.
Mahan looking out through shades he lifted from a toy shop, said he hadn’t shaved since Celtic Manor. "God has seen fit to give me a second chance", he said, adding “this time it’s gonna be different, I’m never gonna go round without enough bounce on my wedges, I’ve learned my lesson the hard way.”
Jonathon Byrd defeated Robert Garrigus in a playoff to win the 2011 Hyundai Tournament of Champions. Graeme McDowell finished third. Watch Final Round Highlights below from the PGA Tour.
Louis Oosthuizen birdied the first playoff hole to defeat Chris Wood and Manuel Quiros at the 2011 Africa Open. The three players had tied at 16 under in regulation.
Oosthuizen received a stroke of luck from the tee in the playoff when his iron missed certain disaster by feet, bouncing back to the fairway, albeit 40 yards behind his partners. His second shot to eight feet bettered the rest however and when they came up short for birdie it was inevitable that Oosthuizen would hold. And he duly obliged.
Dave Andrews happened to be watching the opening round of the Tournament of Champions on TV when he saw Camilo Villegas flick away some loose pieces of grass as his ball was rolling down a slope back toward his divot on the 15th hole at Kapalua.
Andrews and friends went to the USGA's website and found Rule 23-1: "When a ball is in motion, a loose impediment that might influence the movement of the ball must not be removed."
He then submitted an inquiry to the PGA Tour through Twitter. Its the first time a player has been disqualified using the medium.

Captain Colin Montgomerie was back on the fairway pulling off another sensational singles victory against arch nemeses Kim Kyung Tae (well hey anyone playing Monty is his mortal enemy) as Europe won the 2011 Royal Trophy.
Europe produced a fine performance from a 6-2 overnight deficit to come back in contention on the final day of the Royal Trophy in Thailand. Peter Hanson, Matteo Manassero, Rhys Davies, and Freddy Andersson Hed all claimed vital wins. In the race to 8 and a half points it boiled down to Johan Edfors versus Thonchai Jaidee and Pablo Martin against Jeev Milkha Singh.
Edfors and Martin missed tiny putts at the death that would have secured Europe at least a playoff leaving f
or a tense final two holes. Jaidee drove the 17th to secure birdie and a one hole dormi lead having come back from three down with 5 to play.
Pablo Martin also had a nervy finish bouncing off the hospitality tent with his second to 18 but he produced a magical lob shot to within inches to win the trophy.
