I just had a look at the European Tour schedule and see that both the Castello Masters (won by Sergio Garcia last year) and Madrid Open (won by Lee Slattery) have disappeared from this years lineup while a new massive money tournament in China takes centre stage.
Both Madrid and Castello were held in October 2011 with the Portugal Masters sandwiched in between and another Spanish event, the Andalucia Open straight after.
This year the Dunhill Links moves into the first week in October slot, followed by Portugal, Andalucia and then the new BMW Masters at Lake Malaren in China with a prize pot of $7,000,000 takes the last October slot.
The Tour then spends the end of the year in China, Singapore and Hong Kong with approximately $16,000,000 up for grabs over the three weeks.
Just to put that four weeks of Asian money into perspective, the first 15 “regular season” European Tour events of 2012 could have been staged for less!
