It’s great to get on the Tour Truck once in a while to see what the pros are using. Last week I noticed Padraig Harrington was nailing what looked like a cavity back long iron on the range and went to Phil Bonham on the Wilson Tour Truck to investigate.
Padraig was trialing a Wilson Ci 11 to use as a low trajectory long iron in links conditions. Though Wilson don’t make a 2-iron in that set, Phil took a 3-iron head, delofted it a liitle, then fixed it to Padraig’s specs. The experiment was a success and the club went straight into Harrington’s bag for tournament play.
The cavity backed black PVD covered Ci11 is classed as a control iron by Wilson and is aimed at the average player crossing over from a more forgiving beginners club to a low handicappers iron. However such is the forgiveness of these modern perimeter weighted irons, they are becoming increasingly popular in Tour player’s bags.
Expect to see Padraig’s Ci11 iron in the bag again in a few weeks at Royal Lytham.
