New Zealand sporting icon Stevie Williams shot 64 in the first round of the 2012 Open Championship today at Royal Lytham. Afterward he declared himself happy with his round, if a little disappointed that his golfer might have cost him with at least two missed putts.
“Obviously I’m delighted” said Williams. “I’m a great front runner, over 50 Tour wins worldwide. Okay my golfer Adam Scott let me down on a couple of occasions but if I keep doing what I’m doing and take one shot at a time, I feel I have the game to win this. I’ve been in excellent form recently and practice back home has gone well.”
Questioned as to whether or not he would like to be paired with Tiger Woods in the final round, Williams said “I’d love to go head to head with Tiger. We’ve both won big tournaments, we’ve both won Majors. I think the crowd would like to see us go at it down the stretch.”
