Course

The European Tour’s Finals Series heads to Turkey this week and Monty’s Maxx Royal course which will again prove to be far too easy for the assembled talent.  Victor Dubuisson got it to 24 under in winning last year and though rain is forecast in Antalya, similar scoring will be needed again.  The key to Victor’s win was blitzing the par-5’s, although the low tariff of this course gives far more players a chance to win than is ordinarily the case.  A tougher week so for the tipster but I think we've got it covered.  Follow @golfcentraldoc

Doc's Top 5 To Watch

Ian Poulter 25/1

Now in love with his new Titleist equipment, Poults is a real live prospect for this week after his T6 at the WGC HSBC Champions.  He led the field in greens in regulation (GIR) there and went 10 under for the par-5’s, something that will be crucial this week.  Tied fifth here in 2013.

Jamie Donaldson 18/1

Shot an uncharacteristic 77 on Friday at the HSBC which led to a T24 finish but I’m not letting that put me off the Welshman this week.  Since winning in the Czech Republic Jamie recorded top 10’s in Switzerland, Wales and Lake Malaren before last week’s minor aberration.  A hole in one in the final round last year helped him to a round of 63 and solo second.  The only man in the field to outscore winner Victor Dubuisson on the par-5’s then, I give Jamie a great chance again this week.

George Coetzee 33/1

After solid displays in Scotland and Portugal a late entry into the Volvo Matchplay and subsequent fine performance resulted in George getting a real shot in the arm.  Simmering around the top 10 in both Shanghai events over the past two weeks, this Belek course will again suit his aggressive style.  Rule number one of golf tipping; watch out for South Africans near Christmas! Due a big week.

Alex Levy 33/1

There’s little sign of Alex slowing down towards the end of a season where he has won twice and announced himself as one of the next big talents on the European Tour.  The Frenchman is just peppering the flags wherever he goes and there’s no arguing with the stats which show him top of the heap in greens hit in regulation over the past two weeks combined.  A 74 start last week made it difficult to contend but he battled to a creditable T14 finish.  Tied second at the BMW Masters following his win at Portugal.  Will this title stay in French hands?

Ross Fisher 33/1

The BMW Masters was a breakthrough week for Ross after three made cuts, and getting into the playoff there will have him chomping at the bit to get it going again this week.  Tied for 10^th here last year and a great each way bet this time around.  I’m a big Ross Fisher fan and though I wouldn’t ordinarily tip him, his style is perfect for this course.

Long Odds Glory

Darren Fichardt 200/1 and Thomas Aiken 100/1 are two more South Africans at long odds preparing for the meat of their season.  Peter Uihlein 50/1 played well at the Sanderson Farms event on the PGA Tour last week and is another, at long odds, who has the potential to make us each way money.
