Nike Corporation in America have announced this evening that Rory McIlroy will attempt to conquer the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, thanks to an unforeseen break in his schedule after he missed the cut at the BMW PGA Championship.

"This affords us a great opporuntunity we might otherwise never have had" said Nike Head of Global Marketing Paul Cumetsky.
"If we fly Rory into Lukla airport tomorrow, we're confident he can trek the 38.58 miles to Everest Base Camp that afternoon, do a few interviews and host a few climbers at a Nike clinic that night" added Cumetsky.
The Nike spokesman brushed aside calls for complacency saying "We are not worried about altitude acclimatization because lets face it we are dealing with the world's number one golfer here, not just some squillionaire in a North Face suit."
"Rors will push for the additional 12,000 odd feet from base camp straight to summit Everest without oxygen on Monday" said Cumetsky. "Hey its less than 18 holes walk and it  leaves him ample time to practice on Royal County Down on Tuesday and Wednesday," he joked. "We are also going with no Oxygen because it's shit if you came back and tell your mates you climbed Everest with gas," he added.
