Tiger Woods is this morning recovering in hospital following emergency surgery to remove a grey pubic hair.

The offending follicle was discovered by Woods medical team during a routine checkup following the 40 year old's recent back surgery.

Woods was immediately air lifted to a hospital in Utah where neurosurgeon Dr Rich Charles decided to operate immediately.

"It was a complicated procedure that took my team eight hours but Tiger came through it and is doing well," said Charles. "The danger in performing surgery on a grey pubic hair is that two more will grow back in its place which could jeopardise Tiger's return to top level action.  So we decided to laser the lot, crack, sack and all."

In a statement released on his website Woods said "I wish to thank all my fans and reassure them that I'll be back hunting down Jack and his 18 Majors and a Ryder Cup place in no time. And I feel really itchy."
