Ranko and Matthew at the Irish Open today.
When my caddie mate David "Ranko" Rankin told me last Wednesday that he was working for Matthew Southgate little did I know that he would become one of THE main storylines of the 2016 Irish Open.

Matthew's solo 4th place finish won him € 200,000, but money will only be secondary to the happiness he felt today.

Barely a year ago Matthew was helping look after his two year old niece who had leukaemia only to be struck down himself by testicular cancer.

Since then he has been operated on and put himself successfully through Q-School, earning a card which left him as first reserve for the Irish Open.

With this fourth, Matt's immediate future on Tour is secured, he jumps to 51st in the Race To Dubai and life is good.
