For almost 30 minutes after news began to emerge of Geoff Ogilvy having received several stitches in his hand putting his Tournament of Champions defence in jeopardy, betting website bet365.com continued to offer odds of 13/10 on Jim Furyk to defeat him in first round twoball betting.
News reports from Twitter had said: Two-time defending champion of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, Geoff Ogilvy, needed 12 stitches to repair a wound on his right index finger suffered when the Aussie fell in shallow water on a beach in Maui.
Eagle eyed golf punters lumped onto the bet, until bet365 removed it from their site around 10.30pm last night. All eyes will now be on the first tee tomorrow to see if Ogilvy hits his drive before quitting and if Bet365 will honour their bets. Stitched fingers crossed!
