Doc’s Top Three To Watch

Charl Schwartzel 13/2

Quite decent odds really considering Charl’s brilliant record at Leopard Creek over the years.  Won first here in 2004 and after four seconds was victorious again in 2012 and 2013.  Tied 14th last week at The Nedbank and though he has had five top 10’s including at The Open in 2014, Charl just hasn’t hit the heights you might expect.  Still, the horse for the course.

Andy Sullivan 25/1

On a cut streak of seven Andy had a great end to the 2014 season with a T4 in Turkey and T21 at the Tour Championship.  Top 15 in the past two stagings with a best of T3 in 2012 when Charl won by 12 shots!

Richard Sterne 25/1

A six time winner on the European Tour, Richard Sterne on form is one of my favourite players to watch.  His last win came at the 2013 Joburg Open but Richard has been fairly solid in 2014 playing a mix of PGA and European Tour events.  Highlights included a T4 in the WGC Cadillac at the revamped Doral and a T6 on the links at the other Alfred Dunhill in Scotland.  Winner here in 2009, T6 in 2010 and T11 in 2011.

Long Odds Glory Shots

Morten Orum Madsen was on a hot streak around this time last year and is available at 80/1.  He scored a T4 when Portugal was abandoned.  Pelle Edberg 150/1 is back on Tour after a good Q School and I remember him contending at Leopard Creek five or six years back; he might be worth a little flutter for old times sake.  Robert Rock 66/1 has more talent in his back pocket than most, but figuring out when he’s going to use it has been, let’s say, tough.
