Tens of thousands of people have attended a mass demonstration near Government Buildings in Dublin Ireland to demand that Paul McGinley be allowed replace the existing government and run the country himself.

The main rally passed off peacefully.  However, a guard sustained a minor eye injury after a number of people threw Pinnacles to express their dissatisfaction at the current government. The garda was taken to hospital for treatment but later released after being administered two weeks overtime pay.

The estimated 100,000 strong crowd at the rally was told that the Irish government "didn't know their arse from their elbow" and the campaign would continue until it was abolished and McGinley installed to the newly created role of Captain of Ireland.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams told the crowd that Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Joan Burton turned out to be two faced b*stards after all, and should be immediately replaced by McGinley who he called the only "sound man with a bit of cop-on" left in the country.  He also suggested Des Smyth and Padraig Harrington could "give him a hand."

Earlier, Minister for Sport Michael Ring-Piece said he did not envisage any change to the current government structure.

He also said he did not see Paul McGinley "sound an all as he is" being qualified enough to single handedly run the affairs of a country and manage the billions of Euro of a fragile economy still teetering on the brink of recovery from recession.  He also cast doubt as to whether "Captaining a Ryder Cup team, which was always going to win anyway, and doing a bit for Sky Sports" could really be equated with the role of being the entire Governing structure of a country.

Speaking on RTE radio, Mr Ring-Piece said the Government recognises peoples' right to protest and it had listened, employing McGinley to instead run the Olympics for Ireland, which will cost €1.15 a week for a single household or €3 for a multiple-person household. "We're going for a clean sweep in the boxing so we are," said the Minister.
