Watching Jason Day mince a 390 yard drive down the first against Thongchai Jaidee whilst suffering from a back condition made me wince, but whatever the issue the previous day, there was little sign of it yesterday.

Sore back my backside! Jason Day's opening drive

Day was more than a bit Tiger like in his explanation of the issue.  Had he also been listening to some dodgy doctors?

JASON DAY: It's not too bad. Yesterday it was definitely sore. I had a pull. It's a disk, when it gets inflamed the facet joints lock up, and then everything kind of goes into spasm and I can't really move. And it's really difficult to play golf.
I did a lot of therapy yesterday and made sure I did protocals every hour and felt pretty good. I felt pretty good last night. And came out today not really knowing if I was going to play or not. I warmed up very nicely on the range and decided to give it a shot. And I stretched pretty much on every hole.
So what the hell is a Facet Joint? And is Jason talking bollox?

Well it turns out he's most likely right on the money.

Facet Joints are defined as the joints in your spine that make your back flexible and enable you to bend and twist. Nerves exit your spinal cord through these joints on their way to other parts of your body. Healthy facet joints have cartilage, which allows your vertebrae to move smoothly against each other without grinding.

I will never doubt you again Jason. Get well soon Aussie.
