A famous Pilanesberg Lion was tragically killed today during the Nedbank Golf Challenge after a stampeding herd of European Tour players careered through the game reserve. Is it believed rumours of iPhone 7's being given out for free to players over at the clubhouse sparked the deadly stampede.

Simba lies silent on the 7th fairway. The area was marked ground under repair.

Tournament host Gary Player paid tribute to the 30 year old lion, known locally as Simba.

"What a wonderful lion and great friend to me personally Simba was," said Player.  "You know I was the only man in South Africa who wasn't afraid of him, maybe because I was stronger.  You know Simba would come over and lie beside me every morning, just about here, and tap out one thousand two hundred stomach crunches with his paw then watch me bench press eight times my body weight before breakfast. You know I'll miss that wonderful creature."

European Tour Chief Executive Keith Smelley also made a statement.

"Simbo was an extremely Circle Of Life skilled person," Smelley said. "The European Tour aim to pay tribute to him by mounting his head in the canteen of our office in Wentworth and making a whopping great pot of spaghetti bolognese from its meat for the caddies."

The rumours of iPhones being given out for free proved false.
