"When he's on he's simply untouchable."  You could have made that statement that last week about Tiger Woods and this week about Rory McIlroy and maybe just maybe 2020 will bring the two together, in top form, down the stretch at a Major.

For now though McIlroy bagged his fourth win of the season and first WGC win for five years at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China following a dramatic duel with  Xander Schauffele.
The two men went head to head over the closing holes with defending champion Schauffele coolly reeling in Rory.  After the two tied on 19 under, the first replaying of the 18th hole was to prove decisive with McIlroy flexing his muscle off the tee and tapping in for birdie three shots later.
The win sees McIlroy jump 28 places to fifth in the Race To Dubai rankings and within striking distance of a fourth Race win at the DP World Championship which starts on November 21st.

How He Did It

Using his TaylorMade M5 driver Rory hit 34 fairways for the week, posting 16th in the driving accuracy stats and averaging 316.63 yards.  That set up 52 greens in regulation (14 on Sunday) with his TaylorMade P730 irons, 11th in the field.  That translated to a Strokes Gained tee to green total of +3.392 and McIlroy capitalised with a great week on the greens using his TaylorMade Spider X Copper putter to record a clip of 106 putts total with an eagle and 22 birdies versus just five bogeys.
