More sad news to start 2020 with the passing of legendary European Tour caddie "Edinburgh Jimmy" Rae.

Edinburgh Jimmy was the longtime Tour caddie of Paul McGinley. He also caddied for Mark Roe and Ian Poulter and caddied on the ladies Tour in the 80's and 90's.

"Very sad news to start the new year in that my longtime friend and caddy Edinburgh Jimmy passed away today - I’m so sad and will miss him terribly," Paul McGinley said on Twitter.

Jimmy was one of the true breed of proper old school Tour caddies.  Behind a stone exterior he was known to tell plenty of jokes, filthy ones too, but dressed in such a heavy Scottish accent that you just couldn't understand half of them! And he loved his GAS. But he was a brilliant caddie.

Just some of the tributes on Twitter

RIP Jimmy. The gas has gone out.
