Well what did you make of The Colonial? Personally I loved a few things.  A teary eyed Daniel Berger, who had started off the season in super form, getting his win.  A teary eyed Schauffele taking his power lipout on 17 like a man.  And Morikawa, what a player this guy is turning out to be. He also lipped out from three foot putt and Paul McGinley described it as a penalty just "blasted down the middle." It was a tough pill to swallow. But surely another victory to add to his 2019 Barracuda win is coming soon.

Daniel Berger What's In The Bag 2020

Stuff I didn't like was in first tournament back, and let's call it straight here, was a shit atmosphere, or no atmosphere, without crowds and stands and TV commentary that was left desperately exposed.  The famous old course at Colonial too suffered, as organisers watered everything down to ensure the  swelled 148 man field got around speedily and avoided calamity.

How did post Covid-19 precautions go?  Terribly as it happens! Social distancing lasted a day, the masks maybe half of one. The world was watching the PGA Tour as the first sport back and they royally fupped it up.

On the plus side, golf is back. It's weird, it's eerie but there's no doubt the players can still play and perform and entertain.  Let's reserve judgement on the PGA Tour and event production for another few weeks to see if those guys can get the product right.

So Stats How He Did It

A five birdie closing round of 66 and a tidy playoff chip and putt par got it done for Berger at Colonial.  For the week he hit 35 fairways with his Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero Triple Diamond driver (T17 in accuracy) averaging 306.5 yards. With his nine year old model of TaylorMade TP MC irons that he's been using since his college days Berger was imperious hitting 56 greens in regulation, T4 in the field. In total he needed 113 putts with his  TaylorMade Spider Tour (Chalk) putter, for a Strokes Gained Putting clip of 1.292. On his way to win number three on the PGA Tour the 27 year old circled 22 birdies, versus 5 bogeys and one double.
