As a proud Mayoman myself I was very sad to hear of the damage caused to four of the greens on Achill Island Golf Links.  Was it a case that some idiot got so angry after the new Captain of the Mayo golf club, who is from Dublin, produced the new club fixtures book in the Dublin GAA colours 'as a bit of craic', that they lashed out and caused the damage?

Or are the two totally unrelated? I think not.

Anton McNulty has the full report in the Mayo News. He spoke to PRO Aidan Gielty.

“We haven’t a clue who did this or why they would do it. To cause damage the first night was bad enough but to come back the second night and cause more damage is difficult to comprehend."

Hang on a second there Aidan! You haven't a clue why the would do it? If you're not Irish, it might be hard to understand, but probably the biggest insult you can give to a man from County Mayo, is to taunt them with a Dublin GAA reference. And there's a tonne of idiots out there.  That's a big clue.

He went on explain about new Captain and Dubliner Jim Quigley putting the Dublin colours on the Achill fixtures booklet creating a huge viral outcry on WhatsApp groups.
“It was done as a bit of craic and some saw the funny side - while others didn’t! A number of our members are Dubs and Jim has been a member for nearly ten years and has done a lot for the club in that time. It was only a bit of craic but we didn’t think it would go as viral as it did,” he said.

It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to figure out what precipitated this terrible damage.  Whoever did this has no interest in golf, is a complete idiot, and was pissed off as hell at that fixtures book.
