Irish eyes could be smiling tonight as both Rory McIlroy and Pagraig Harrington are in touch heading into the final round of the WGC Cadillac in Doral.

Rors may have been battling a swollen foot after dropping a weight on it during a gym session but he is just three shots behind leader Dustin Johnson having made six birdies and three bogeys in his third round, describing his performance as “workmanlike”.  “I’m sure there’s a low one out there,” Rory said when asked if he was eyeing another Quail Hollow-like 63.

Padraig Harrington meanwhile carded a third round 68, to leave him four off the lead. He will be aiming to taste victory for the first time since the 2008 PGA Championship

But the affable Irishman is anxious to see if he can win the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship. He’ll start the final round at 9 under and four strokes off the lead held by Dustin Johnson after Saturday’s 68.

The round of 4 under marked the first time Harrington had broken 70 on the weekend in three stroke play events this year. In fact, it beat his best score in the final two rounds this year on the PGA TOUR by four shots.

“A lot of events over here last year, I was in the top‑10 going into the last round, three, four, back. It’s doable but it means a big day tomorrow and I had that a lot last year and I don’t want to press too hard or too quickly. Have to wait and see how we get on and keep playing the same way.”
