GolfCentralDaily loves nothing more than to have fun, but there's a time to be serious too.

Darren Clarke is out playing in the inaugural Dubai Open on the Asian Tour and part of his mission is to highlight breast cancer awareness amongst the women in the United Arab Emirates where more than one in four deaths are from breast cancer.

Having sadly lost his own wife Heather to breast cancer in 2006, Darren spoke of his mission in the UAE.

“Spenny (friend David Spencer) gave me an interesting stat last night," said Darren. "He said 28% of female deaths in the UAE die of breast cancer, and that’s an amazing stat and that will be reduced by 50 per cent with early detection. I’ve got my breast cancer awareness badge, it’s over there. It’s something close to my heart for obvious reasons and it’s because of efforts that Spenny and Mohamed do that make that difference. I’m here because I want to support them because they have supported me throughout my career.”

Well done Darren and Happy Christmas.
