Thanks to Niall on facebook for highlighting Charley Hoffman's apparent spot of gardening during Round One of the Valero Texas Open.

The knee-jerk conclusion is that The Hoff is tapping down a spike mark or something on the line of the putt, but there could be a number of explanations. Possibly its not on the line of the putt (the camera angle might make it look skewed) or Charley could be repairing a previously repaired plug mark?

I'm sure he's a stand up bloke and I tipped The Hoff this week so fingers crossed all will be good with old Slugger!

What do you think?

**Update: Both PGA and European Tour players have been on to me with opinions. Many saying Charley is an honest guy and others saying that if it was an old ball pitch mark, Charley should have taken out his pitch mark repairer as is the norm, even if the damage can be fixed with a quick tap.**

**Update 2: Charley was pictured arriving for his second round with a strange machine.
