The wife of PGA Tour rookie and former Walker Cup hero Blaze Decker is recovering in hospital tonight after being pushed down a flight of stairs by her husband.

Melanie Decker who broke her leg in four places told reporters "It didn't really hurt much at all.  Blaze was so gracious afterwards, he came down straight away to see how I was and later sent one of the kids back to give me a signed glove."

According to childminder Clare Bayliss who witnessed the incident, Decker approached his wife from behind at the top of the stairs before forcefully pushing her with both hands down the 20 step teak staircase.

Decker's management company however issued a statement this evening which claimed "Blaze clearly shouted 'Fore' seconds beforehand which completely exonerates him of any wrong doing here. And he took the time to sign a glove.  He's looking forward to seeing Melanie in eight weeks or so to see how she is doing."

 More as it emerges.
