Favourites Discussion

WGC Bridgestone winner Shane Lowry assumes the mantle of favourite after recovering from a first round 74 around Carnoustie to finish a very creditable T19 at the Dunhill Links.  The Clara man eased back into form with a T17 fairways hit clip and a T15 in the putting stats.  Second favourite is Jamie Donaldson at 20/1 who is settling back into European Tour life and finding his greens in regulation game again.  He added a T13 in Scotland to his T5 the week before in Germany.

Doc’s Top Five To Watch

Soren Kjeldsen 30/1

Soren is enjoying one of his best seasons on the European Tour and aside from a blip in Italy has been on another impressive run of late.  That stretches back a T2 at his home event in Denmark since which he has added a T12 in Holland, and T9’s in Germany and Scotland.  Driving, irons, putting; all the pistons in the Kjeldsen engine are functioning well and a second win this season is very much a possibility at Woburn.

Chris Wood 35/1

You have to admire the spirit of Chris Wood to come back from three missed cuts in a row to tie fourth at the Alfred Dunhill Links last week.  Known as a links specialist but Wood showed his parkland prowess in winning the Lyoness Open at Diamond Country Club a few months back and he’ll head to Woburn feeling very confident.  Solo fourth in Wentworth earlier this year.

Peter Hanson 66/1

I’ve been wondering is Peter Hanson getting back to the kind of golf that will allow him to win again and now I think he’s very close.  A T19 at the European Open was followed by a T13 at the Dunhill Links where he recorded a clip of solo sixth in driving accuracy and led the greens in regulation stats.  Recorded only three bogeys all week over the three courses also.  I’ll be very interested to see Hanson’s progression this week.

Benjamin Hebert 90/1

With his card now secure thanks to a massive €150,000 injection at the Dunhill Links, Benjamin now has the chance to break into the top 60 in the Race To Dubai rankings with another good finish this week.  Improved in his last four starts from T41 in Holland, to T25 in Italy, T12 in Germany and T4 in Scotland last week.  The form dog and playing without shackles.

Felipe Aguilar 175/1

I’ll put a couple of quid on Felipe at 175/1 any day.  T13 in Scotland last week after missing three cuts in a row and you know that means…..he’s only gone and discovered the secret!  Seriously though, it’s all about confidence and with 21 birdies on the links last week, that will be soaring.  Way overpriced and don’t say I didn’t tell you!
