Wentworth golf club is a war zone since its new Chinese owners, Reignwood Group, took over.

The relationship between the members and the new owner, Dr Chanchai Ruayrungruang,  deteriorated to such an extent that British PM David Cameron has sent his Foreign Secretary Phillip Hammond to try to make peace between the warring factions.

The Reignwood Group, which reportedly paid  over €190 million for the property, have been accused of trying to squeeze out the existing members by inflating membership fees.

Members were keen to highlight how the Chinese owners only lowered the English flag to half mast following the Paris terror attacks while the Chinese flag beside it flew at full mast.

The result of the Foreign Secretaries intervention will be interesting and could set a precedent for future investments by foreign companies.
