Tiger Woods pre-Hero World Challenge press conference yesterday may rank as one of the grim-est he's ever given; and he has given some pretty grim ones over the years.

Woods gave the strongest indication yet that he does not plan on returning to action next year, if ever.  Hence his willingness to sign up as a Ryder Cup assistant Captain a year out from the event.

Woods days now are far from pumping iron and thousands of women; he now "walks and walks and walks" and plays video games at home.  After a third operation on the same spot on his back, Woods still sees little improvement and admitted that even running with his kids is not an option.

“If I can get to that, then we can start talking about golf,” he said. “But let me get to where I can pass the time and really be a part of my kids’ life in the way that I want to be part of it physically, not just as a cheerleader.”

Grim stuff. Brace yourself!
