Jordan Spieth is at 6/1 with the bookies and with five top-20's from his last six starts including a T2 at The Masters, you would ordinarily say those odds are justified.  But anyone who saw the Augusta problems, which fronted up again last Sunday at the Byron Nelson will know that Jordan has a lot of work to do.

Doc’s Top Five Players To Watch at The Colonial

Matt Kuchar 14/1

Remember when Kuch locked Butch in the can!
‘Golly Matty’ is playing well right now!  Coming off a solo third at the Byron Nelson where he drove a putted well and T3 at The Players where he hit his irons well; this could be the week when it all comes together.  Didn’t play here last year and missed the cut in 2014 but was solo 2nd here in 2013.  Great each way chance this week.

Kevin Chappell 28/1

Kevin. Intense.

Kevin’s finish at The Players last time out reminded me so much of Rickie Fowler when he won; eyes only for the target.  With his solo second at Sawgrass and a T4 in Texas, T9 at Harbour Town and solo second in Bay Hill you have to think a win is coming.  T19 and T10 on his last two visits to Colonial but in much better form coming in this time.

Colt Knost 40/1

Colt Knost. On fire.
Colonial as a par 70, with just two par-5’s is known as a ball strikers track and there is nobody doing that better right now than Colt Knost.  Three straight top-10’s in the GIR stats and while he didn’t covert at  Quail Hollow has gone T3 at The Players and T4 at the Byron Nelson since.  T10 here in 2015.

Chris Kirk 35/1

Kirk out. Well in actually.
I’ve been flying the flag for Chris Kirk of late and it’s pretty easy to like him this week.  Defending champion, six made cuts from six starts here and never out of the top-35.  Withdrew after the first round of The Players and been on holiday pics since so rust may be a factor, but coming in fresh with a formline of T5 at the Zurich Classic and T13 in Texas gets him my pick.

Charley Hoffman  25/1

The Hoff. So sexy.

Toss of a coin between The Hoff and Zach Johnson for the final pick  and while Zach has a super Colonial record, his putting form of late just hasn’t been good enough.  Hoffman on the other hand comes in off four top-15 finishes including an emotional win in Texas and will be full of confidence.  Charley was T10 here in 2015, one of the three top-20’s in his last four visits.
