Retief. Thrill and minute.

Very clever move by the USGA who, in light of the fact that exciting players like McIlroy, Day, Spieth, Mickelson, Fowler and co are in the field for the 2016 US Open at Oakmont, thought it prudent to offset the glitz by inviting Retief Goosen. Or was it?

Yes Goosen, 67, won the US Open twice, in 2001 U.S. Open at Southern Hills and again in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills, but surely there are more relevant and deserving players out there that could have got the invite?

But when you hear that Vijay Singh was the last person to receive the same type of USGA invitation in 2010 at Pebble Beach it all makes sense.

Cant wait to see him play.
