The good news for punters is that there’s plenty of value in the win-only market with nobody at time of writing listed under the magical 10/1 odds mark.  Byeong Hun An is 14/1 and makes his debut on this Milan course but he’s coming off an impressive solo third at the KLM Open where his iron game was super impressive. He tends to hold form once found so certainly is worth a win only punt here where hitting greens is imperative.

Doc’s Top Five Best Each Way Bets

Martin Kaymer 11/1

All the ladies want to mother Martin Kaymer!
Comes back to Italy this week with unfinished business after he narrowly missed out to Rikard Karlberg in a playoff last year.  The German is rested after a T6 last time out in Denmark and T7 before that at Baltusrol.  In all Kaymer has five top-10’s from his last eight starts and his form looks too good to be ignored.

Matt Fitzpatrick 16/1

Matt’s T7 performance in Switzerland last time out goes down for me as one of the best by any player this season.  After a down and out looking 75 on Thursday, he knuckled down with rounds of 65, 66 and a Sunday 64 to show all concerned about his character just how much grit he has.  Tied third on his debut here last year and has the greens in regulation game to win.

Fabrizio Zanotti 40/1

Fabrizio. Wears a helmet ever since taking one on the noggin'.

There are a few courses where guys like Fabrizio can realistically contend and here is one.  Trending upwards with a T24 in Switzerland and T16 last week in Holland where he ranked second in driving accuracy and 11 in greens in reg.  Kept his composure well here last year to finish T3 behind Kaymer and Karlberg.

Alejandro Canizares 50/1

The dream pairing for Gillette.
Trawling down the betting to find some longer odds players to offset the Kaymer and Fitzpatrick picks I see Alejandro Canizares at 50/1.   The Spaniard is improving in form and his solo fourth at The Dutch saw him fifth in driving accuracy and first in putts per round.  He tied 25th here last year.

Nico Colsaerts 50/1

Yep he did. Straight out the hotel balcony window.

I’m going to stick with Nico Colsaerts one more week at odds of 50/1.  T24’s in last two starts in Holland and Switzerland and in need of a spark to break through.  I remember Nico’s opening round of 63 here last year; it included eight birdies in a row so hopefully that will bring back some good vibes.  T20 here beside the Monza F1 track on that occasion, Nico also has three top 10’s in Italy since 2010.

Long Odds Glory Shot

Tommy Fleetwood 75/1

Yes I know. Uncanny!

At 75/1 Tommy Fleetwood looks overpriced to me and has been playing better of late.  Hit a lot of greens in his T16 in the Czech Republic and again last week in a T10 at the KLM Open.  A good week on the flatter greens in Milan could result in a surprise.
