Andy Sullivan tops the betting after a brilliant solo second while defending in Portugal.  Sully was tied first in fairways hit off the tee, first in GIR, carded 26 birdies and was -1, -11, -10 for the par 3’s, 4’s and 5’s.  Knows how to win when in form. And that’s form!

Doc’s Top Five Each Way Bets

Tyrrell Hatton 16/1

Recent winner at the Alfred Dunhill, T9 at The Grove and T23 last week in China; Tyrrell has the GIR credentials to contend again on this Peter Thomson designed mock heathland course.

Lee Westwood 20/1

The event moves to a new venue this week and that always throws some variables into the equation but Lee Westwood has played well in Turkey in his past two visits and I believe is close to winning.  Lee can draw inspiration from Padraig Harrington’s win recently and after a solo third at The Grove and fourth in Crans I think he’ll be there or thereabouts this week.  Shot 77 in the third round last week in coming 29th in the WGC HSBC but I’m not letting that put me off.

Alex Levy 28/1

Poor last week at the WGC HSBC champions but this course looks as if it was built for Alex.  T4 at The British Masters and winner of the European Open, expect a good showing.

Kiradech Aphibarnrat 40/1

Solo third in this event on the Monty Maxx course last year and I think he’ll revel in this target golf setup here.  There’s no rhyme or reason to Kiradech but he has popped up in my notes at this time of year before and after being impressed by his T12 at The Grove a couple of weeks back I think he’s worth a squeak.

Mikko Korhonen 80/1

Very impressed by the flying Fin in Portugal and he’s coming up on the rails from 80/1 this week.  Tied first in fairways in Vilamoura, carded 28 birdies and was -14 for just the par fours.  If I was setting the odds for the bookies I’d have Mikko at 35/1 max;  those odds of 80/1 are too good each way.
