Danny Willett acquitted himself well at the annual BBC Sports Personality Of The Year Awards last night in Birmingham but when it came for the public to vote,  it seems they didn't really care at all for The Masters Champion.

Even Gary Lineker made it sound like Jordan Spieth threw it away at Augusta during the interview.

Maybe this is the reality check golf needs. Euro Tour boss Keith Pelley spoke some weeks ago about rebranding the players as superstars. With Willett receiving just 2,227 votes, it clearly hasn't started yet.

I personally would have thought Willett would have more gotten votes than many of the other sportsmen and women I had barely ever heard of.  Fellow players and caddies tell me Danny's an acquired taste on Tour, but maybe its also a reflection on the BBC's dwindling golf coverage given that gold medal winning Justin Rose wasn't even nominated or present.

I don't know Danny personally, but I do admire his work ethic on Tour and his achievements. I really thought he deserved more votes.
