Now why would you air a reality TV show on the Golf Channel to invent a new driver design, then launch it, only to be hugely embarrassed by the USGA ruling that it is non conforming? That's exactly what happened the Wilson Triton driver which has been pulled from many shelves in the US pending a redesign.  But might this turn out to be a masterstroke of marketing?

The USGA have highlighted an aesthetic issue involving the size of the sole plate, and the COR of the face when the adjustable weights are used in one specific setting. Not very much there?

Not at all. In fact Wilson say they will have their new conforming version back on the shelves next week and in time for Christmas.

Will golfers be clamouring for the "almost" non conforming driver with the springy face?  Will more be looking for the pulled illegal version that's more fun?

I think many will.  As the US Presidential election proved, there is no such thing as bad publicity. However unwittingly, this could turn out to be great for Wilson.  They make great irons, it's high time they had some woods to match.
