Doc's Top Five Best Riviera Bets

Dustin Johnson 10/1

With an in form Jordan Spieth distracting the bookies, Dustin Johnson is quoted at 10/1 with pretty much all the leading bookmakers this week and coming off a solo third at Pebble Beach they look generous odds.  DJ's stats read T13 in Greens and T15 in Putting  last week; the same again will see him contend at tricky Riviera. Nine appearances, seven cuts made, six top-10's, solo 4th, T2, solo 2nd the last three years; it's a no brainer.

Sergio Garcia 25/1

It seems strange that Sergio is out at 25/1 following his win in Dubai.  The bookies will point to a few errant drives in the desert that won't wash at Riviera and a missed cut here last year.  I'm looking more at a field topping Greens in Regulation performance in Dubai and T4 finishes at Riviera in 2015 and 2012.  Confidence is the difference between world beating and average and it's surging through Sergio right now.

Adam Scott 18/1

There always the great unknown with Adam Scott at the start of HIS season. He sweeps in and nobody really knows what to expect. Last year, the same happened, and Scott finished T2 at Riviera then went on to win his next two at the Honda Classic and WGC Caddy.  So I'm backing Scott who has five top-10's and a worst of T17 in his last seven visits to Pacific Palisades.

Marc Leishman 66/1

Marc Leishman might be worth a look at lengthy odds this week; for me he's a big solid guy on the brink of good form. T24 last time out in Phoenix where he drove it long and putted really well (T2 in the stats). T20 at both the Farmers and Sony Open before that and T5 here last year.

Steve Stricker 150/1

I think Steve Stricker could surprise a lot of people this week and really contend.  Riviera is a course where experience really counts.  Stricker is back up to Tour pace after  a T23 at Pebble last week where he topped the Driving Accuracy stats and posted a T4 in Greens in Regulation.  Winner at Riviera in 2010 and T11 here last year.  A great each way punt and will even be value odds for a top-10 finish.

Long Odds Glory

There's a tonne of value in the Long Odds Glory section this week with Keegan Bradley among those catching the eye at 90/1. He finished 2016 well and has a T4 at The Farmers already this season.  Good Riviera record with a T2 in 2012 and T4 in 2015; it will all boil down to Keegan's putting.  Seung Yul Noh is 200/1 this week but fits into the category of players who can win at Riviera for me.  T8 at Pebble last week posting -5's for just the par-3's (that's a flag).  Debutant Mackenzie Hughes is also quoted at 150/1 after a T10 and some good irons last week.
