Poor old Padraig Harrington was left needing stitches after being hit in the elbow by an amateur's club during a lesson.

Podge has withdrawn from this week's St Jude Classic in Memphis to recover but should be fit to compete in the French and Irish Opens before The Open at Royal Birkdale where he won his second Major.

The identity of the amateur who hit Padraig Harrington is unknown.

Padraig said in a series of tweets:

Just withdrawn from @PGATOUR @fesjcmemphis this week.I was hit on the elbow with a practice swing by an amateur I was coaching at an outing.

Thankfully nothing was broken, just 6 stitches. I thought it was the end of me playing competitive golf.

Barring me fainting from the shock of pain, once I numbed it up, I couldn't feel anything," Harrington told reporters. “He caught me on the left elbow - middle of the clubface, middle of the elbow. I was pretty sure it was broken and thought it was the end of me playing competitive golf. When I came back from the hospital, I gave him a big hug. It was a pure accident. These things happen. I know he felt bad. And he told me I straightened out his hook."
