If the balance of power in the Ryder Cup has been changing of late in favour of Team USA, it was Team Europe who got a shot in the arm today with the news that Paul Casey has finally deemed him both interested and eligible again by rejoining the European Tour.

Casey back for Europe. I'll drink to that!

After three years away, Casey will begin his 2018 European Tour schedule in Abu Dhabi at the HSBC Championship in January.

“I have missed my contribution to English golf, British golf, my contribution to Europe,” Casey said yesterday.

Casey, now 40, has played in three Ryder Cups (winning two) and is keen to be involved at Le Golf National in Septemeber 2018.

“My Ryder Cup experiences in the past have been the highlight of my career,” he said. “Obviously this puts me in line to hopefully, possibly, play another Ryder Cup, which I would dearly love to do."

“Thomas Bjorn has been a massive support. He’s assisted me in making the decision with his confidence in me and his backing of me and my game. He hasn’t crowded me or pressured me in any way. He’s just been there as an ear, which has been wonderful.”

Brilliant news.
