With Henrik Stenson pretty much unbackable at 15/2 for his home open, I’ve had to look down the field to find some real each way value.

Shane Lowry 33/1
Life is great for Shane right now and it’s during these purple patches that everything seems to come so easy. The T15 at the Open de Espana which came after three consecutive missed cuts was the turning point for the two time Tour winner. Then came a solo second thanks to that 50 foot bomb on the 72nd green at Wentworth last Sunday. On Monday he qualified top of the pile at qualy for the US Open at Pinehurst. Of course the big fear here is that Lowry will be tired or not trying after the adventures of the last few days. I really hope he does give this tournament his full attention though; this PGA of Sweden National looks like a carbon copy of the Monty Links at Carton House which Shane plays expertly and should be right up his alley. If the stamina is there, Shane can win this.
Pablo Larrazabal 40/1
Pablo wears his heart on his sleeve and can get irritated when things aren’t going so well on the course but when he is in the mood he’s golden. Already a winner this year in Abu Dhabi, he has found a bit of form recently with a T8 in Malaysia and T7 in Wentworth. I think he has the perfect game for the inland links layout and I for one will be having a little flutter.
Mikko Illonen 50/1
Just struggling to piece four good rounds together at the moment but when that consistency does come, Mikko will win again. The poor round came on Sunday in China but he still scored a T8, and it came in the first round at the Open de Espana where he missed the cut. Last week at Wentworth Mikko took at 77 on Saturday and had to settle for a T38. Defending champion this week and T3 in 2012, albeit on a different track.
Rafa Cabrera Bello 33/1
T16 at Wentworth for Rafa, another man who I believe has the game for this links. Started off great in Abu Dhabi and Dubai and though he has only missed one cut in Malaysia, Rafa has not as yet exploded into life. Super intense!
Felipe Aguilar 66/1
What about Chile for the World Cup? What about Felipe this week? Missed the cut at Wentworth and his odds for a good performance this week have shifted out. I’m still impressed with his recent form since a T4 in Sotogrande. Winner a couple of weeks later in Singapore then a T7 at the Open de Espana. Top 10 finishes at Bro Hoff Slot in the last two Nordea Masters also.
Mid table mediocrity and three uncharacteristic missed cuts have been the order of the day so far in 2014 for the German, but something clicked last week at Wentworth when he finished a best of the season T7. That will have been a huge boost for Marcel and he’ll be looking to tough it out again. Great each way odds at 60/1, I love when things click!
Alvaro Quiros 60/1
Really thought and hoped that Alvaro was getting back to his best after a good T13 in Malaysia and third in China but after the Open de Espana and PGA Championship now I’m not so sure. Very enticing odds, but the canny punter will wait to see how he handles this new layout in the first round before committing any hard earned cash to the cause.
