Following his second round an emotional Sergio Garcia revealed the reason for his dismal performance so far at this week's Open de Espana.

The Spaniard so desperately wanted to do well at his home Open after reaching the playoff at last week's Players Championship but stands right on the cut line at +3 after two rounds.

"I'm absolutely gutted" said Garcia. "I walked onto the practice ground this morning and got hit with a rogue Miguel Angel Jimenez fart.  It was one of those God awful red wine and garlic ones. I breathed it right in.  It was like something crawled up his hole and died. It was so bad I could taste it."

The world number seven went on describe the aftermath.

"It's hard to describe what it's like to get hit square in the face by a Jimenez ripper" explained Garcia.  "I suppose it's like a concussion in Rugby or American Football.  There should be some sort of three month "return to play" protocol put in place by the Tour for anyone who gets hit by one.

Garcia also conceded he was partially at fault.

"Darren Clarke got hit by one last month and he warned us all not to stand downwind of Miguel.  He emits more noxious fumes than the space shuttle during blastoff. I should have known better."
More as it emerges. From Miguel's arse.
