Unnoticed. Shane Lowry has done a huge amount of strength and conditioning work.
I used to write a page for the Irish Examiner newspaper but was left disgusted and disappointed after reading a piece by Kieran Shannon blaming Shane Lowry's failure to win the US Open on his weight.

How did this get past the editors?

The piece is dressed up in almost every paragragh with compliments about how "sound" a guy Shane is while clearly insinuating that his weight caused the US Open loss.

There’s no way to sugarcoat it: Shane Lowry had something of a mental collapse last Sunday. It’s not a crime. Plenty of players endured a day like it before winning a major, and as Jordan Spieth can vouch, it can happen after you’ve won majors as well.
A contributing factor to Lowry’s slippage had to be mental fatigue brought on by physical fatigue. The more tired you are, the more prone to being distracted you are. You lose concentration, you overly-internalise. You’re not as confident as you could be; deep down there’s a part of you that will feel like you’ve cut corners here, you’re just a game, plucky boyo who doesn’t really belong in this mix, at least consistently, that you’ve been finally found out.

Interestingly there is no mention of the word "fat" in the article. I'm taking from that the editors did have a look through the piece and made sure of this.

What is very hurtful in this piece is that the writer doesn't seem to know Shane Lowry or the effort he has put into his fitness over the past couple of years.

There's no mention whatsoever of his strength and conditioning coach Robbie Cannon and the huge work they have put in together.

There's no mention of Shane driving the ball on average 10 yards further this season as a result of the work put in. Or that he averaged 324 yards off the tee at TPC Sawgrass.

There's no mention of Shane rising from 75 in the world rankings to 25 over the past year including winning the WGC Bridgestone.

In fact there's very little in the way of fact in the piece; just a guy's opinion.

And I strongly disagree.
