The World Human Rights watchdog Amnesty International has weighed in on the JB Holmes slow play controversy today, urging Twitter to cease its barbaric treatment of the PGA Tour golfer.

Amnesty has called for an end to the senseless and savage torture of the 35 year old Kentuckian after he took 4 minutes and 10 seconds, then "laid up", on the 18th hole at Torrey Pines Sunday night.

"Yes we agree that if he took 4 minutes and 10 seconds he should have fucking gone for the green in two but this in no way excuses the baseless barbaric torture that has been meted out to JB Holmes on Twitter," said Amnesty spokesman Peter Peesley. "No human deserves that treatment, irrespective of how mind numbingly awful the wait was."

Here's the highlights of the shot.

Following the 250 second wait, the abuse gathered momentum on Twitter.

"Hurry up for fecks sakes, you're making me look like Usain Bolt,"  tweeted Jason Day from the clubhouse.

President's Barack Obama and Donald Trump tweeted

Even Conor McGregor was upset at the wait.

Amnesty say they are setting up a helpline today so that anyone affected by the wait can receive counselling.

More as it emerges.
