Favourites Discussion

There is no discussion, Dustin Johnson owns Riviera.  Winner last year (destroyed the field) and top four in his last five starts here.  5/1 pre tournament is ridiculous. That is all.

Doc's Top 5 Best Each Way Bets At Riviera

Bubba Watson 50/1

Is Bubba finding his way back to some form?  Are we due some tears of joy outside the clubhouse at Riviera on Sunday night?  It may be a bit early for all that but we are signs of the old Bubba back again in recent weeks (T40 Phoenix, T35 Pebble) and as polarising a character as he is, he is also box office.  What caught my eye was his T4 greens hit clip last week over three courses which will have given confidence.  Winner here in 2014 and 2016 and it will be intriguing to see how he goes this week minus his Volvik!!

Phil Mickelson 25/1

Still 25/1 in the betting after a T5 in Phoenix and T2 last week at Pebble Beach and wouldn't it be super if Phil could keep his form up until Masters time.  So how is he doing it? Putting.  As cavalier as Mickelson is on tees and greens he's putting is just brilliant right now.  110 and 111 putts in the last two weeks says everything and has allowed a super spread of scoring over par-3/4/5's. Winner here in 2008 and 2009 along with two other seconds.

Tommy Fleetwood 28/1

Tommy is a Riviera debutant this week but if there was ever a course to suit his game….this is it.  Now a full PGA Tour card holder Tommy brings impeccable credentials over from the European Tour with a stellar 2017 and a win already this year in Abu Dhabi followed by a T6 in Dubai. THE best in the world at hitting fairways and greens just now, it'll be interesting to see how he mixes with the big dogs.

Paul Casey 28/1

You almost know what you're going to get every week from Paul Casey. And that's a good and bad thing!  He'll be almost metronomic from tee to green, then not get near his fair share of putts.  T9 in Abu Dhabi on the European Tour, then crossed over the PGA Tour with an impressive T8 at Pebble.  Best of T2 here in 2015 and could come into a place for each way gain.

Jimmy Walker 80/1

After an abysmal start to the year Jimmy took a massive step forward with a T8 at Pebble Beach last week with three rounds in the 60's.  The T15 greens in regulation clip over three courses there was impressive and if he can drive it better at Riviera he has course form with T4's in 2011 and 2012 and a T11 in 2017.

Long Odds Glory Shots

Kevin Na is 100/1 and he looks to be on the up after a T20 on the Monterey Peninsula last week.  He'll grind all day as he did to a T4 here last year.

Martin Laird at 125/1 is still on my radar after a T9 in Phoenix and some real quality all round golf.  His accuracy off the tee has served well at Riviera in the past with a T8 in 2017 and T11 in 2016.

Another man who is straight with the big dog is Sangmoon Bae at 125/1.  Comes in off a T15 last week and has come no worse than 12th at Riveria in three starts (T8 2013, T12 2014, T8 2015).
