2011 Memorial Tournament: Betting preview and tips

KJ Choi 25/1

KJ is on a five tournament cut streak, with four top 10’s in six events and just off a big win at The Players. Hated the weather last week at the Byron Nelson, but will love coming back to Muirfield Village. Fifth in 2004, tied for eighth in 2005 and won here in 2007 when his final round 65 pipped Ryan Moore by one. His best result since is 13^th in 2009 but KJ hasn’t been in form like he is this season for yonks.

Luke Donald 8/1

If you think tiredness is going to be a factor with Luke this week, skip to the next tip, you could be right. If you like me think Luke is on fire, a machine, fit, bulked up even, continue reading. Two wins, nine top 10’s, an average finishing position of 3.4 in his five events, this is phenomenal stuff. Yes it has to end sometime, but until then lets continue to make hay while the sun shines. Luuuuuuke forever. Or for another few weeks at least!

Ryan Moore 40/1

There’s always one or two players that have a natural affinity for a course and play well irrespective of current form. I think Ryan Moore fit that bill nicely this week. He’s solid if unspectacular this season to date on a 13 event cut streak and with a worst finish of 35^th in his last five events. Played well at the Northern Trust Open in March to finish fourth. Second to Choi at the 2007 Memorial, Moore tied for 10^th in 2008 and after a horrible best forgotten missed cut in 2009, he came back with a tied fifth last year.

Matt Kuchar 18/1

Tied for sixth last week in atrocious conditions at the HP Byron Nelson and looking like he might soon be a winner again. Almost Luke Donald like in his top 10 hit rate this season with seven so far. Kuch tied eighth here last year and tied fifth in 2009. Possibilities.

Robert Karlsson 66/1

This might seem a little bit out of left field but I have real feeling for Robert Karlsson at the craziest of odds at 66/1. After a string of frankly terrible results Robert finally got going two weeks back at the Crowne Plaza tying fifth. Four rounds in 60’s then and with Alastair McLean on the bag Karlsson may be hitting form just at the right time. Amazed he didn’t go to Wentworth last week, he was hot on my radar then, so I predict another good week.
