When I saw The Open draw I couldn't believe my eyes; Nick Faldo paired with Rickie Fowler and Justin Rose.

Dont get me wrong, Sir Nick is a great champion, but by his own admission he has "climbed down from the commentary box and onto the golf course" for The Open with nothing like his game of old.

Did The Open organizers not consider pairing Faldo with some other players of his own ilk where he could play out his last Open a little less seriously?

Did they think for a second that having Faldo with two of the tournament favourites might not be the best thing for Fowler and Rose's chances?  Players feed off the energy of their partners and sadly Faldo just doesn't have a tournament game anymore.

When I saw Rickie Fowler clad top to toe in raingear and mits shuffling around in the rough for Sir Nick's ball on 13 for five minutes, it summed up the ridiculousness of the plan.

What must they have been thinking?

Crazy pairing Faldo with Fowler and Rose.
