With just days to go until the start of the 2015/16 Barclays Premiership season, Chelsea FC have launched an audacious bid to sign Jordan Spieth.  The deal, believed to be in the region of £50 million, would see the two time Major Champion give up golf to pursue a proper sporting career at Stamford Bridge.

The move follows a cards on the table meeting between Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and owner Roman Abramovich during which the Russian oligarch was told in no certain terms "I want Jordan Spieth at any cost."

Speaking to reporters at a packed press conference, Mourinho outlined why he wanted to sign the 22 year old Texan who, it is widely believed, has never even seen a 'soccer ball.'

"Doesn't matter," Mourinho said. "He is winner. He is champion.  He is ready."

Responding to suggestions that Spieth may not be able to perform it at the highest levels of world football, Mourinho was resolute.

"He cannot play golf, yet he is champion. He has shitty swing, yet he is winner. He is young. He can learn. He is better than Terry."

The press conference ended in a jovial mood after a Sun reporter suggested to Mourinho that he should also try to sign Rory McIlroy.

"We looked. He is injury risk," responded the emotionless Chelsea boss.

More as it emerges.
