This is a follow up to the earlier story of  24-year-old local Hugo Nguyen accused of stealing an $8,000 Omega Clock from a tee box at Whistling Straits Golf Course after the PGA Championship.

After an outpouring of support for the entrepreneurial thief, Rory McIlroy has come to his defence claiming it was he, and not Nguyen, that carried out the heist.

McIlroy also stated that the giant Omega Watch used on a tee box, actually belonged to him as part of his sponsorship deal with the watchmaker and that he was 'just taking it home' in a wheelbarrow.  After his ankle become sore pushing the timepiece, McIlroy says he stopped Nguyen to ask for help with the removal.

McIlroy even supplied an image of himself initially pushing the clock as proof.

More as it emerges.
