Since hearing that Sky were taking over coverage of the Open Championship in 2017 I have been savouring the dulcet tones and witty banter of Peter Alliss. I took heart in him saying "we are not going away yet you know; we will be back in 2016 for one more year" at the end of this years coverage.

It seems now however that will not be happening after the BBC have ended their deal to show the Open Championship effective immediately, meaning the 2016 Open at Troon will be covered (ads and all) by Sky Sports.

It all happened very quietly last week.

The BBC will still have nightly highlights and radio coverage but no more of the extended afternoons with legend that is Alliss.  It's a sad way to leave.

Or will Sky employ Peter as a commentator for the week? Now there is an idea!
