How about this for chivalry.  Rich Beem, who had secured himself a rare starting spot in the Hong Kong Open field, gave it up to Ian Poulter so he can fulfil his 13 European Tour starts and thus stay in the running for the 2016 Ryder Cup.

Without any of us knowing Poults has slipped out of the World Top 50 and all the extra invites that come along with it including the WGC HSBC Championship.

But for Beemer's gesture, Poults would have been in golfing no mans land.

"I want to play in the worst way," Beem said. "But there were no other options, and I'm not going to keep a guy from losing all his status and not be eligible for the Ryder Cup. So I stepped aside. I didn't think twice about it or ask for huge demands."

And the saddest thing for Beemer? He had organised his family to go with him to Hong Kong. Bummer!

And even more sad? I would have flown there to caddie!

But what a gesture.
