Phil Mickelson has parted company from long time swing coach Butch Harmon, in a last ditch bid to find the key to contend again consistently at the highest level.

For all his excellence Mickelson has always struggled to find fairways from the tee; in 2015 he ranked 161st in driving accuracy, hitting just 56% of possible fairways.

The break up was friendly though and seems to have been handled well in the media.

“I’ve learned a great deal from him in our eight years together,” Mickelson said. “It’s just that at the moment I need to hear new ideas from a different perspective.”

Butch also seemed happy enough.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Phil and we’ve had great success together," Harmon said. Helping him win the Open Championship in 2013 was one of the pinnacles of my career. I see nothing wrong with him seeking advice from another source. We’re great friends and always will be.”
