Tiger Woods registered for the US Open on April 4th.
After Tiger Woods was filmed hitting 300 yard drives during a clinic in Sage Valley it was clear he is progressing physically.

Now comes the news today that Woods is officially entered for the 2016 US Open.  Alex Micelli wrote  in Golfweek

Woods, 40, a three-time U.S. Open champion who is recuperating from back surgeries, is exempt into the national championship because of his 2008 victory at Torrey Pines. Yet, to participate in the 116th edition June 16-19 at Oakmont County Club, he needed to register by 5 p.m. Wednesday. Woods registered at 4:33 p.m. April 4, the U.S. Golf Association said.

Whether this is just a documentation exercise to be done on Woods behalf  'just in case' is unclear but speculation is now surfacing that he may play the Wells Fargo or Memorial (starting June 2nd)  before the US Open as a preparation.

The official word is still no word as tweeted by Tim Rosaforte on Saturday.
