Masters organisers expressed their delight this evening as Tiger Woods turned up unannounced at dusk to practice on the range at Augusta National Golf Club.

Members happily made an exception to the usually strict range closing time of 6.30pm to allow Woods to practice alone for over an hour.

A photo of Woods hitting balls in the fading light was posted on the official Masters Twitter account.

Tiger Woods To Play 2017 Masters

"Tiger looked fantastic," Augusta Chairman Billy Payne told the Augusta Chronicle website this evening. "He first hit irons, then several drives and finally moved to the short game area where we had some lights brought in. It was a real treat to watch him in full flow."

But did Chairman Payne get any insight into Tiger definitely playing next week?

"I certainly cannot speak for Tiger but we spoke briefly when he arrived and he said he was renting a property locally so I'm taking that as a positive indicator of his intent."

More as it emerges.
