After spending the last three days celebrating with every single person in Ireland, newly crowned Open Champion Shane Lowry surprised his local Gaelic Football Club with another amazing act of kindness yesterday.

Clara GAA Club, without proper gates for the past three years after an incident involving a shower of tinkers from Tullamore were gifted a brand new set of wrought iron gates complete with a very special padlock by Lowry.

"What I done is melted down the Claret Jug and had it made into a brand new padlock by the lads in Chubb," Lowry told club Chairman Paddy Bergin at a handover ceremony yesterday evening attended by a crowd of over 10,000 people. "So if any knackers come around robbin' gates, they'll have a job o' work to get these."

Asked what he'll say to the R&A when it comes time to return the Claret Jug Lowry winked and said "Sure we'll cross that bridge when we come to it!"

More as it emerges.
