The 121st United States Open Championship, often referred to as the U.S. Open, will launch
on 17th June at Torrey Pines in California. Depending on the weather, the event should
conclude on the third Sunday from mid-June.
The annual competition is one of four prestigious professional golfing tournaments. It takes
place in America throughout the year and is hosted by the United States Golf Association
(USGA - U.S. and Mexicos governing body of golf, and national association of golfing
facilities, courses, and clubs).
The competition is open to any professional or player with a USGA handicap index of or
below 1.4. There will be 156 players at the upcoming event, with roughly half the field being
exempt from qualifying.
Last year, Bryson DeChambeau emerged as champion, with a 274 (-6) score and a winning
share of $2,250,000, with Matthew Wolff as the runner-up.
With assistance from OLBG's golf betting tipsters, below we divulge the golfers to watch out
for in the upcoming U.S. Open.
Dustin Johnson
The top player to win the U.S. Open is Dustin Hunter Johnson, aged 36, from Columbia,
South Carolina, who plays as part of the PGA Tour.
So far, throughout Dustin's career, he has won two prolific tournaments: the U.S. Open at
Oakmont Country Club in 2016 and the Masters Tournament in 2020.
Moreover, the player has finished in a tie for second place at the Open Championship in
2011 and the U.S. Open in 2015. Plus, he's amassed a total of six World Golf
championships, only one less than the legendary Tiger Woods.
Additionally, Dustin is the first golf player in history to have won each one of the four World
Golf Championships (WGC).
As of 23rd May, Dustin became the number one golfer in the Official World Golf Ranking
system. He's appeared in the number one position numerous times in recent years, including
2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
One of his most recent victories includes the Saudi international, which he succeeded on 7th
February for the second time.
Suffice to say, Dustin's extensive experience and reputation have earned him a deserved
spot as a favorite to win this year's U.S. Open.
Jon Rahm
Spanish professional golfer Jon Rahm Rodriguez aged 26, living in Phoenix, Arizona, was
ranked as number one in the Official World Golf Ranking table after his victory in the
memorial tournament in Dublin last summer. He maintained his position for 60 weeks!
Jon has demonstrated steady success before and after the amateur turned professional in
2016.
For instance, he became a two-time champion of the Ben Hogan Award, breaking Jack
Nicklaus's 72 scoring mark in Japan's world amateur team championship in 2014. Not to
mention, he recently defeated Dustin last year in the BMW Championship.
The reportedly fiery Spaniard is another favorite that could snap up the U.S. Open this year.
Brooks Koepka
A PGA touring professional golfer, Brooks Kopeka, 31, from Florida, is the third favorite to
secure the championship title at the upcoming golf competition this summer.
Like the other top contenders listed above, he has previously secured a position in the
Official World Golf Ranking table as number 1 for an impressive 47 weeks.
Brook is no stranger to winning the U.S. Open either, having earned the winning title in 2017
and 2018; he has experience of what it takes to make it through the event.
He also won the PGA Championship in 2018 and 2019. As such, it's clear to see why the
bookies think he has a high chance of winning.
Jordan Spieth
Next up is 27-year-old Jordan Alexander Spieth from Texas, derived from OLGB's tipster
website; he is one player to be mindful of when placing bets this year. Like Dustin, Jordan is
also a golfer on the PGA Tour.
Recognition and accomplishments to date include being rated the top golfer in the Official
world golf ranking table. Earning a position as the three-time winner at the FedEx Cup
championship in 2015 and becoming the youngest golfing champion to win the U.S. Open in
2015, since 1923.
Jordans' determination to improve his game over the last few months. Coupled with his
previous U.S. Open win and incredible short game means he could earn this year's title as
the U.S. Open champion.
Patrick Reed
30-year-old Patrick Nathaniel Reed resides in Texas and is a pro golfer in the PGA and
European tour.
Patrick has accrued a few notable accomplishments. As such, given extensive training, he
could move up the ranks of favorites to win the U.S. Open.
For instance, he has previously won the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship and the 2018
Masters tournament. He has also represented the U.S. in the Ryder Cup, where he was
fondly referred to as Captain America. Plus, recently, Patrick won the Farmers Insurance
Open at Torrey pines too.
With a rundown of some of the top players to win above, placing a wager will be more
straightforward to do.
With everyone excited to see what the U.S. open will behold. Most are planning to watch the
events on ESPN and place their bets with bookies online, as it' still unclear whether
spectators can attend the competition in person.
